    Elizabeth I

Elizabeth was born on 7th September 1533 at Greenwich Palace. She was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. Elizabeths birth was a dissapointment for her father as he longed for a male heir.

Elizabeths early life was full of upheavel. Her mother was executed on 19th May 1536 and just like her half sister, Mary, she was stripped of her Princess title and declared illegitimate. She was therefore removed from the line of succession.

Despite not being granted with her Royal title, Elizabeth was educated to an extremely high standard and it is believed that she could speak five languages fluently.

During the reign of her sister, Mary I, Elizabeth lived a life of uncertainty. Mary I was determined to put an end to the protestant faith being practiced in England and as such Elizabeth was believed to be at the centre of many plots to remove Mary from the throne and replace her with Elizabeth, thus ensuring a protestant ruler.
