Prince Edward was born at Hampton Court Palace on 12th October 1537 and was the long awaited male heir for King Henry VIII.
Edward was aged just 9 years old when he was coronated on 20th February 1547.
Due to Edwards age the realm was governed by the Regency Council which was led by Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset – Edward VI’s uncle – between 1537 & 1549 and John Dudley, 1st Earl of Warwick (later to become 1st Duke of Northumberland) between 1550 & 1553.
In January 1553, aged just 15 years old, Edward became ill with a fever and cough which gradually worsened over time. He died on 6th July 1553. The cause of death is believed to have been tuberculosis.
